Managing IPTV Connections
StreamSweeper allows you to connect to multiple IPTV sources using either Xtream Codes API or M3U playlist URLs. This guide covers everything you need to know about managing your connections.
Connection Types
Xtream Codes API
Xtream Codes is a popular IPTV management system used by many providers. If your provider uses Xtream Codes, they'll give you three pieces of information:
- Portal URL: The server address (e.g.,
http://example.com:8080)
- Username: Your unique username
- Password: Your password
✓ Benefits of Xtream Codes: Automatic EPG updates, organized categories, and full access to live TV, movies, and series content.
M3U Playlist URL
M3U is a standard playlist format. Your provider may give you a direct URL to an .m3u or .m3u8 file:
- M3U URL: A direct link like
http://provider.com/playlist.m3u
📝 Note: M3U playlists may not include EPG data or organized categories, depending on how your provider formats the file.
Adding a Connection
Adding a Xtream Codes Connection
- Navigate to Connections → Add Connection
- Select Xtream Codes as the connection type
- Fill in the connection details:
- Connection Name: Choose a friendly name (e.g., "Main Provider", "Sports Backup")
- Portal URL: Enter the full server URL including port number
- Username: Your Xtream Codes username
- Password: Your Xtream Codes password
- Click Test Connection to verify credentials
- If the test succeeds, click Save
⚠️ Common Mistakes:
- Forgetting the port number in the Portal URL (usually :8080 or similar)

/get.php or other path information (only the base URL is needed)
- Copy-pasting with extra spaces before or after credentials

- Select M3U URL as the connection type
- Fill in the connection details:

Security & Encryption
How Your Credentials Are Stored
StreamSweeper takes security seriously:
- All connection credentials are encrypted using AES-256 encryption
- Credentials are encrypted at rest in the database
- Only you can access your connection details
- StreamSweeper staff cannot view your credentials
- Credentials are never shared with third parties
Best Practices
- Use a strong, unique password for your StreamSweeper account
- Don't share your connection credentials with others
- Regularly update your passwords
- If you suspect unauthorized access, change your credentials immediately
Troubleshooting Connection Issues
Connection Test Fails
If the connection test fails, try these steps:
- Verify credentials: Double-check that your URL, username, and password are correct
- Check the URL format: Ensure you're using
http:// (not https://) if required
- Include the port: Most Xtream Codes servers require a port number (e.g., :8080)
- Contact your provider: Verify that your subscription is active and the server is online
- Test in another app: Try your credentials in another IPTV player to rule out provider issues
Channels Not Loading
If your connection is saved but channels aren't appearing:
- Click the Refresh button to reload channel data
- Wait a few minutes - large channel lists can take time to process
- Check if your IPTV subscription has expired
- Verify your provider's server is online
EPG Data Missing
If program guide data isn't showing:
- Some providers don't include EPG data with their service
- Try refreshing the connection to fetch latest EPG updates
- Check if your provider offers EPG - not all do
- EPG data is cached for up to 7 days by default
Understanding Connection Status
Status Indicators
Each connection shows a status indicator:
- 🟢 Active: Connection is working properly and data is up to date
- 🟡 Refreshing: Connection is currently updating channel or EPG data
- 🔴 Error: Connection test failed - check credentials or server status
Last Updated
The "Last Updated" timestamp shows when StreamSweeper last successfully fetched data from your provider.
Multiple Connections
Why Use Multiple Connections?
- Backup sources: If one provider goes down, you have alternatives
- Specialized content: One provider for sports, another for movies
- Regional coverage: Different providers for different countries
- Combine sources: Merge channels from multiple providers into one playlist
Organizing Multiple Connections
Use descriptive names to keep track:
- "US Sports Provider"
- "UK News Channels"
- "Backup Service"
- "Free IPTV-ORG"
